SUMMARY:Ledisi – Nationwide Picnic with the Pops
DESCRIPTION:Stuart Chafetz\, conductor\nLedisi\, vocalist\n \nLedisi’s love for classic songs and legendary singers knows no bounds. The Grammy-winning vocalist celebrated the catalog of Nina Simone at the Hollywood Bowl in 2021\, and now\, on her new album For Dinah\, the powerhouse pays tribute to Dinah Washington. Raised in Alabama\, Washington sang the blues and jazz with the same charm she brought to pop. Ledisi brings the same spirit across everything she does\, imbuing Washington’s classic songs with the verve of neo-soul and contemporary jazz. Be there and see why John Legend called her “one of the greatest singers in the world\, period.” \nIn the first half of the program\, Principal Pops Conductor Stuart Chafetz leads the Columbus Symphony in popular tunes ranging from Pirates of the Caribbean to Earth\, Wind & Fire and Stevie Wonder. \nAccess the digital program notes for this concert here.

SUMMARY:Summer Night Music in Dublin
DESCRIPTION:Elias Miller\, conductor \nCuong: Next Week’s Trees\nHaydn: Symphony No. 39 in G minor\nDvořák: Serenade in E Major for String Orchestra\, op. 22 \nJoin Assistant Conductor Elias Miller for a perfect summer evening as he leads the Columbus Symphony in a delightful and invigorating hour-long concert. Contemporary composer Viet Cuong’s spirited Next Week’s Trees is “a meditation on the persistence of hope in an ever-fragile world” inspired by the words of poet Mary Oliver. Haydn’s Symphony No. 39 is known as “Tempesta di mare” due to its exhilarating turbulence reminiscent of a storm at sea. The program concludes with the warm and lush sounds of Dvořák’s perennially popular Serenade for Strings. \nThe Summer Night Music neighborhood concert series brings classical music out to central Ohio communities and provides a relaxed setting for sharing symphonic music with friends and neighbors. \nTickets can be purchased in advance or at the door.
