DESCRIPTION:Rossen Milanov\, conductor\nMaxim Lando\, piano \nBeethoven: Egmont Overture\nSchumann: Symphony No. 4\nBrahms: Piano Concerto No. 1 \nMusical brilliance abounds in this concert featuring works by three prominent composers from the Classical and Romantic eras. Beethoven’s overture to Egmont is part of the incidental music he composed for the play by Goethe. It portrays in a brilliant and powerful way the ideas of oppression\, struggle\, and freedom. Schumann’s music captures the imagination with its romantic passion and energy\, while offering an innovative formal design where all the movements of the Symphony are linked together. \nRising-star pianist Maxim Lando returns to the Columbus Symphony with Brahms’ virtuosic First Piano Concerto\, a work that poses extraordinary demands on the soloist and is filled with lush melodies and dramatic contrasts. \nThis performance will be approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes\, and includes a 15-minute intermission. \nEnjoy a free pre-concert talk at 6:30PM on Friday and at 2PM on Saturday that dives into the music you’ll hear! There is no assigned seating during the pre-concert talks. \nThis concert is dedicated to the memory of Mark and Annie Bates by their loving family: Deborah\, Hiroshi\, Ken\, Bryan\, and Emily Yoshino. \nThe Columbus Symphony uses Steinway Pianos generously furnished by Graves Piano.\nMr. Lando appears by arrangement of Arabella Arts.
