DESCRIPTION:This lecture by Columbus Museum of Art Curator of Collections and Exhibitions Daniel Marcus explores the cultural background of Carl Orff’s Trionfo di Afrodite. Marcus discusses the suppression of modernism and revival of ancient Greek and Roman art in 1930s Germany. After the talk\, enjoy a live performance by Columbus Symphony musicians Megan Amos (principal horn)\, Hugo Souza (principal oboe) and Suzanne Newcomb (piano) of Carl Reinecke’s Trio in A minor\, Op. 188. Tickets are $5 for CMA members\, $15 for nonmembers.
