YOUNG PEOPLE'S CONCERTS

Each year, thousands of students throughout the greater Columbus area participate in the Columbus Symphony’s Young People’s Concerts. Concerts are programmed at the Ohio Theatre and are thematically based and grade-appropriate. Curriculum concert materials and playlists are provided for teachers and students based on the Ohio Academic content standards to all registered schools at time of registration. All seats are $5 (free for Title 1 Schools) and include one free adult/chaperone ticket for every 20 students.

Melody is one of the universal elements of music and defines the music we know and love. A great melody can express ideas and emotions, help tell a story, and bring people together through song. Composers create melodies through a combination of rhythmic patterns, sweeping contours, and expressive qualities. Through the Link Up repertoire, hands-on activities, and a culminating interactive performance with a professional orchestra, we will explore what makes a melody great.
