Junior Strings

Under the direction of Sara Given, the mission of Junior Strings is to encourage the technical and musical development of young string players in grades 3-6 throughout Central Ohio. The orchestra is designed to foster the growth and development of string and orchestral experiences for young people in Central Ohio.

Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, 3 pm - Showcase Concert featuring all four youth orchestras.

Sara Given, conductor

Sara Given teaches middle school orchestra in the Hilliard City Schools. Prior to teaching in Hilliard, Ms. Given was a middle school orchestra director for the New Albany Plain-Local Schools. She also taught in the Centerville City Schools near Dayton as an elementary, middle, and high school director and co-director of the Centerville High School Chamber Music Program.

Ms. Given earned her Master’s Degree in String Music Education with an emphasis in String Pedagogy from The Ohio State University;she earned her Bachelor’s degree is in Instrumental Music Education from Ohio University. During her time at Ohio University she served as assistant conductor of the Athens Youth Orchestra.

Ms. Given currently serves as Master Teacher for The Ohio State University String Project, a program designed to provide under-served student populations in the greater Columbus area access to string music education. Ms. Given also maintains a private studio of violin and viola students and performs with local orchestras.
