Chorus Auditions

What to expect in an audition?

Each audition lasts about 8 -10 minutes and consists of the following:

  1. The auditionee sings a prepared piece of classical music—a simple piece is very acceptable. The purpose is to demonstrate the person’s voice and musicality. An accompanist is provided. Please bring 3 copies of the music: one for the pianist and a copy for the chorus conductor to follow, as well as your own. It is not necessary to memorize the piece.
  2. Each person will be given some ear-training/testing (repeating intervals) and be asked to vocalize.
  3. Each person will be asked to sight-read a short piece of music; often the choice is a Bach chorale.

The auditions are held in Room 1, lower level of the Ohio Theatre, 39 E. State Street. Enter the building at the back of the open air walkway on the east side of the building, and then take the elevator down one level where a chorus member will greet you.

A history of the chorus and the schedule for this coming season can be can also be found on the CSO website. The chorus rehearses on Tuesday evenings, 7:15 to 9:45 pm in the same room where the auditions will be held.
